Freddie Mac is the common term for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC). This is a stockholder owned corporation that was chartered by Congress in 1970. Their purpose is to create a good supply of mortgage funds to expand opportunities for home ownership. FHLMC programs that are similar to those offered by FannieMae.
